photo assignment 2. I chose to take three photos are a part of my everyday life that represent what makes me happiest through artificial, diffuse, and direct lighting styles.
directional light

This portrait, in Arbor Hills Nature Preserve, was taken in the middle of a Sunday, Sept. 06, 2020. As shown, this photo was shot in direct sunlight to highlight the fashion style of Lexi Goodman, which is a prominent passion of hers. Goodman is attending Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas as a journalism major. (Lexi Goodman/SMU).
This photo is direct sunlight and was taken on a sunny afternoon this weekend as I went to arbor hills nature preserve with some friends to enjoy the beautiful scenery and weather, and we took our the dogs to play, as well. This is directional lighting in that the sun light source that was used was assessed from one specific direction. This was not too hard to shoot, ut it was definitely not the easiest. I feel like the harsh lines of the sun and shadows it was originally creating, and brightness reflected was somewhat hard to work around. Eventually it was accomplished after trying over and over to finally get the feel for this type of light.
diffused light

This portrait was taken at the entrance of Southern Methodist University in diffused light by Lexi Goodman on an overcast Sunday afternoon on Sept. 06, 2020. Goodman is attending Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas as a journalism major. (Lexi Goodman/SMU).
I took this photo on an overcast and cloudy day, to fulfill the diffused lighting portrait. I decided to take this photo of SMU since I am a student here, and my education is a huge part of my life. You can tell this is diffused light based on how soft and cloudy the sky is enabling this portrait to demonstrate. This photo was the easiest of the three to take in that it allowed me to try taking this photo from various different angles since there were no harsh lines or extreme lighting that would make it harder to shoot. Also, overcast days are simply flat and even light throughout the day, so it didn’t really matter what time of the daylight I used to shoot this portrait in that it was soft and diffused the entire day time.
artificial light

This photo was taken of Asher, a two-year-old golden retriever, in artificial lighting by Lexi Goodman on Sunday, Sept. 06, 2020. Goodman is attending Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, and majoring in journalism. (Lexi Goodman/SMU).
This portrait was taken of my two-year-old golden retriever, Asher, in my office using my ring LED artificial light. I decided to take a photo of my dog, Asher, because he has been such a big part of my life over the past few years. I decided to get him during a very difficult time in my life and he has always been right by my side to cheer me up and make me feel loved whenever I am down. He is so sweet and such a great dog, so I wanted to spotlight him here. He is a huge part of guy happiness and I love to adventure and explore the world with him. Taking this photo in my LED ring light that I used for the artificial light was not only difficult to figure out how little or much to adjust the brightness, but also where to position the light source. It was hard to shoot in a small space to truly focus on the subject with this light source, I think if it was outside it would have been easier to accomplish. Overall, I think it turned out super cute of Asher.
